FG APPROVS 173 LOAN APPS, BARS ILLEGAL ONLINE BANKS

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has approved 173 digital lending applications to operate in the country.

Of the 173, 119 have full approvals and 54 have conditional approvals. After loan apps started harassing Nigerians, the FCCPC began a registration drive to protect citizens from the atrocities of these apps.

It released a ‘Limited Interim Regulatory/ Registration Framework and Guidelines for Digital Lending 2022’ to regulate the digital lending space and make registration and approval a prerequisite for companies seeking to operate in the space.

After shifting its deadline multiple times, it finally adopted March 27, 2023, as the close of registration. The commission has now released a list of approved apps that can operate in the country. Companies without approvals will not be able to operate in the space.

Commenting on its effort against digital lending apps in August 2022, the FCCPC said, “In addition to the enforcement action(s) and in furtherance of the desire to promote fair, transparent and mutually beneficial alternative lending opportunities apart from traditional lending to consumers, the inter-agency Joint Regulatory and Enforcement Task Force has developed and mutually adopted a Limited Interim Regulatory/ Registration Framework and Guidelines for Digital Lending, 2022 as the first and interim step to establishing a clear regulatory framework.

“This becomes enforceable immediately. It requires permission to proceed in digital lending; it provides a limited moratorium period for existing businesses to comply in order to continue in digital lending.

“The guidelines also mandate different service providers in the relevant ecosystem (such as banks, access/download platforms or stores, technology providers and payment systems) to require regulatory approval before providing services.”

Some of the approved loan apps listed by the commission include Branch International Financial Services Limited, Fairmoney Micro Finance Bank, Pivo Technology Limited, Renmoney Microfinance Bank Limited, Carbon Microfinance Bank Limited, Creditwave Finance Limited amongst others.

Loans without the FCCPC’s approval will be removed from Play Store by Google and unavailable for download.

In November, Google Play announced updates to its Developer Program Policy, which mandated that digital money lenders in Nigeria, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Kenya must conform to regulatory rules.

This was expected to come into force from January 31, 2023. In March, Google took down hundreds of unapproved loan apps from the Play Store in Kenya according to a report on TechCrunch.

In February 2023, the Nigeria Data Protection Bureau revealed that a national committee, made up of federal agencies, was working in tandem to clip the activities of illegal loan apps in the country.

Pope: Lalong tenders unreserved apology to Catholic Bishops

The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council, Governor Simon Lalong, on Friday, tendered an unreserved apology to the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) over his ‘blasphemous’ remarks about the Holy Father, Pope Francis.

The governor of Plateau state, who admitted that it was an error on his part to have linked the Catholic Pontiff with Nigeria’s politics, begged for forgiveness and understanding from the Catholic Church through the Bishops’ conference.

Earlier, concerned members of the Church had frowned at his choice of words, even as a Papal Knight of St. Gregory and demanded his immediate suspension from the Church.

However, in a letter to the CBCN President entitled, ‘Letter of Apology’ which was dated August 12, 2022, Governor Lalong restated his commitment to the Catholic faith promised to continue upholding the banner of the Christian faith in public life.

The letter reads, “I have followed with some shock and deep regret, the reactions that have trailed my appointment as the Director-General of the Campaign Council for the Presidential Candidates of our Party, the All Progressive Congress, APC, Ahmed Bola Tinubu and Ibrahim Shettima.

“The appointment, understandably was received with mixed reactions across the Christian community who genuinely feel aggrieved by the decision of our party to settle for a Muslim Muslim ticket.

“While many people commended me for the appointment and saw it as a way of remaining within the system to fight for our own interests, others cast aspersions on it on the grounds that our faith had been insulted and denigrated.

“In the course of this, many of my opponents turned the issue into a political weapon with some spreading rumours and questioning the integrity of my credentials as a Catholic and a Papal Knight.

“In trying to make my case, I have granted interviews to justify why I believe that the appointment did not in any way undermine my commitment to the Catholic Church.

“During the week, in the course of defending myself, I had cause to make reference to my credentials as a Catholic and a Papal Knight. In the process, I made reference to the Holy Father.

“I now realise that this was an error on my part and has caused some level of concern and even embarrassment to many, especially the Members of the family of Papal Knights to which I belong.

“I now understand that I may have overreached myself in the course of trying to defend my personal decision in accepting this appointment and thus, the reference to the holy father was not intended as an act of disrespect to his exalted and revered office.

“Your Grace, by this written letter, I wish to tender my unreserved apologies and ask for their understanding and forgiveness from my brothers in the Catholic faith and, through you, the entire members of the Bishops’ Conference, our Fathers and our Leaders.

“My commitment to the Catholic faith to which belong remains unreserved and undiluted. I will continue to uphold the banner of my faith in public life as I have done over the years.

“You may recall, Your Grace that in the last five or so years, have been at the forefront of facilitating our dialogue as politicians with you our fathers in the faith. remain committed to this and pray that you will continue to encourage us as we ascend the slippery slope of politics.”

Advantages & Disadvantages of Taking Loans from Banks from Small Business

Every business needs a certain amount of money to start. The entrepreneur on the threshold of starting a new venture, has to work out where and how he will get access to sufficient funds.
The first organization that he thinks of is his bank. Yes banks are almost always one of the first organizations to be approached for funds in the form of a loan. It is here that harsh realities hit the entrepreneur who soon learns how difficult it is to get a bank loan to finance his small business venture. A select fortunate few, do manage to fulfill all the pre-requisites for a bank loan, and are successful in procuring them. But for every successful loan application there are many that get rejected. The tough regulations linked to bank loans are gradually undergoing a change with banks realizing the phenomenal potential of small businesses. This explains the special programs and additional services launched by big banks to woo small businesses.
Bank loans are just one of the various options available for small businesses to raise funds. The final decision about where to secure funds depends on the balance between the pros and cons of the source. Like all other funding sources, bank loans also come with their share of advantages and disadvantages.

Bank Loans for Small Business

Advantages

  • Convenient and accessible– Banks are always accessible since they are used regularly for depositing savings or withdrawing them. After being bank customers for years, the bank becomes convenient and familiar, and personalized service makes it the first place to consider for a loan.
  • Multiple Loan options– All banks advertise various types of schemes to woo entrepreneurs setting up or running a business. The real earnings for a bank come from the interest they charge on these loans. Options like term loans, standard business loans and others are available for the entrepreneur.
  • Non profit sharing– Venture capitalists and angel investors agree to provide a loan in exchange for part ownership, the right to influence decision making and a share of the profits. Banks do not ask for any of these. If they do sanction a loan, they are only interested in getting their interest and partial loan payment installments.
  • Lower rates of interest-Though tough to get, banks provide loans at lower rates of interest than other lending agencies and instruments like credit cards.
  • Bank loans offer tax benefits– Small businesses taking loans from banks enjoy some relief from tax, since the percentage of profits used to repay the loan is exempted from tax.
It is these advantages that prompt entrepreneurs to approach banks for one of the various loans offered.

Disadvantages

However, as mentioned before, getting a bank loan is not easy, and its disadvantages include:
  • Lengthy application process– banks need to verify all the credentials and details about the business before sanctioning a loan. Therefore its application process is very long and its review etc. takes a long time.
  • Cumbersome– The prospect of getting into the detailing that banks require is really cumbersome, and from the entrepreneur’s point of view, totally unnecessary.
  • Preference given to existing, running businesses– banks prefer running businesses because they can gauge its profitability and credit history before sanctioning the loan.
  • Long list of prerequisites to qualify for the loan– banks have long list of conditions that a business should fulfill before they clear the loan. It is sometimes not possible to meet all of them.
  • Risk of losing Collateral– bank loans are generally sanctioned against some collateral, often the entrepreneur’s house and property. This stands the risk of being lost to the bank should the business fail to take off.
  • Entire amount not granted– banks are known to not agree to grant the whole amount requested for a loan. They may grant 70 or 80 % of the sum applied for. This makes it difficult for the entrepreneur to begin since he has to scout around for the remaining balance and find agencies to funs that before he can start.
Thus it is the balance between these advantages and disadvantages that prompt people to approach banks for small business loans. While raising funds is an essential part of business, so too is budgeting and having someone in the business with a keen eye on keep costs under control and within budget. Anyone in business can reaps the rewards from financial education and professional advice.

Environment in Business 0.2

It is a surrounding of, and influence on a particular item of interest. It is very important to know that role of environment on our our business or personal life can't be over looked
Many of us are shaped by the environment we find ourselves because of the influence it has.
Our environment should be able to align with our orientation.
So, it is very important in business arena , environment must be well looked into.
As an entrepreneur, you must be careful in dealing with your environment
It can either build you or break you.

Majority of us are being dragged back by the environment we found ourselves.
So ,it affects the business .Don't forget,It is a surrounding of, and influence on a particular item of interest.Environment has great influence on your business. If you are selling male designer clothes where you have female as dominant residents. You may not make sales.

If you are operating transportation in an estate where all the occupants have their private cars.

What happen?
No sales.

Environment is a strong pillar an entrepreneur must pay attention to.There are kinds of environment

Physical/ People Environment
Non-People Environment

In business, watch out for these two environment.

1) Physical/people environment

It is all about those activities , or people who can influence your decision and behavior.
As I have said, environment is crucial, thus, focus on it.

If you are not moving with people who can influence your business, you are wasting your time. You are at the wrong end.

So ,you have to define those people who occupy your environment.
Carefully do this because it determines many things.

The people in your life determines how far you can go in life or in business. Don't get it wrong , that does not mean you should become cheap commodity. If you are moving with someone who also does business .You will have smooth relationship and profitable one. If the person is right thinking person.

 2.) Non- people environment

These are majorly  ,information, ideas, belief, books, films ,music etc. that we exposed ourselves to. Some of us are exposed to wrong information, wrong ideas, books et al.

"A good reader is a great leader."

You need to read to boost your potency.

You need to be exposed to helping information. You can't be great than your mindsets
These mindsets are shaped by information, we are exposed to
We need to update and re equipped our arsenals.

Our brains must be refreshed time to time

This is because, being exceptional is good, being a pace setter isn't easy
To be a business mogul ,you need to prepare for it.

Unfortunately, our Nigerian movies have greatly affected our reasoning.

There are a lot of wrong claims portrayed in a right manner. If you are selling or dealing with food, you don't read books out of this environment.

You have to get appropriate tools to excel. You don't read styles and fashion. When own a restaurant or into food business . These are out of environment of this business.
Environment of Business
Finally, as an entrepreneur, you have to realise environment is one of the major pillars in business. If it requires that you CHANGE your environment, please do.

ENVIRONMENT OF BUSINESS

 https://megabrainbizcom.blogspot.com/2018/07/environment-of-business.html
To start a business, you need to study your environment very well,so as to know the kind of opportunity to be tapped. This observation is very crucial to the growth of the business.many people have failed to carry out this excise ,thus giving them problem in the process of actualising the business'goal. Environment has a prominent role to play so ,it must not be overlooked.

Environment is the surrounding of,and influences on,a particular item of interest. With these underlined words such as surrounding and  influence, one can identify this subject matter as factor that can't be relegated when talking about business.

As an entrepreneur, it is worthy of note, to identify the importance of Environment.
Majority of us do not consider having people in our lives as something to be seriously looked in to. You need to choose with wisdom otherwise, you end up blaming yourself. Environment of business determines how that business can flourish. Environment has influence on the business so the environment must be taking care of.

There are two major environments which an entrepreneur must know.

JOKE

Several men are in the changing room of Ikoyi golf club in Lagos. Then a mobile phone on a bench rings and a man engages the hands free speaker-function and began to talk. Everyone else in the room stops to listen.

MAN: "Hello

WOMAN: "Darling, it's me. Are you at the club?"

MAN: "Yes"

WOMAN: "What’s wrong with your voice darling?

MAN: "Nothing really, just tired!

WOMAN: "Ok. I am at the ShopRite shopping mall inside wranglers and found this beautiful Versace leather coat. It's only =N=119,000. Is it OK if I buy it?"

MAN: "Sure,…go ahead if you like it that much.

WOMAN: "I also stopped by the Mercedes dealership and saw the new 2016 model. I saw one I really liked."

MAN: "How much?"

WOMAN: "=N=28,000,000".

MAN: "OK, but for that price I want it with all the options."

WOMAN: "Great! Oh, and one more thing ... The house I wanted last year is back on the market. They're asking =N=178,500,000. Its at Victoria Garden City, the house is so beautiful!

MAN: "Well, then go ahead and give them an offer of =N=178,000,000. They will probably take it. If not, we can go the extra 500 thousand. It really is a pretty good price.

WOMAN: "OK. I'll see you later! I love you so much!!"

MAN: "Bye! I love you, too."

The man hangs up. The other men in the changing room are staring at him in astonishment, mouths agape...
He smiles and asks: "Does anyone know the owner of this phone?"

BMI NOT GOOD INDICATOR OF HEALTH

Researchers from the University of Alberta say the Body Mass  Index, BMI, that measures a person’s body size from their weight and height,  is not only a bad indicator of how healthy you are, it can lead to doctors prescribing wrong treatment. A healthy BMI is typically measured between 18.5 and 24.9. Anything under 18.5 is considered underweight.

BMIs between 25 and 29.9 fall into overweight territory, and above 30 is considered obese. While someone with a BMI of above 30 is considered obese by the metric, they may actually be perfectly healthy, metabolically speaking. On the other hand, some people with BMIs below 30 have health problems that could improve if they were to lose weight.

BMI tells how big you are, not  how sick you are so it is  not a good criteria to be diagnosing a disease. However, the researchers say what many fail to recognize is that BMI is just a quick and objective number to cite so patients can be told if they have a weight problem.

Obesity specialists should  use BMI as a first step, and then go beyond BMI as needed. But the doctors admit that BMI still has its place in medicine.

Buhari not seriously ill, not in hospital – Presidency

According to Premium Times
http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/222642-buhari-not-seriously-ill-not-hospital-presidency.html

Despite extending his medical leave abroad, President Muhammadu Buhari “is not in any serious condition to worry about,” his media aide, Garba Shehu  told PREMIUM TIMES Sunday.
The explanation came hours after the president wrote to the National Assembly to inform lawmakers of his intention to extend his medical vacation in London.
“President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the National Assembly today, February 5, 2017, informing of his desire to extend his leave in order to complete and receive the results of a series of tests recommended by his doctors,” presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, said in a statementon Sunday.
“The president had planned to return to Abuja this evening but was advised to complete the test cycle before returning. The notice has since been dispatched to the Senate President, and Speaker, House of Representatives.
“Mr. President expresses his sincere gratitude to Nigerians for their concern, prayers and kind wishes,” Mr. Adesina further stated.
The news sent Nigerians speculating that the president was gravely ill and may not return anytime soon.
But Mr. Shehu, while explaining today’s development to PREMIUM TIMES, said the president is not in a hospital but in his residence at the Nigerian High Commission in England.
“I just spoke to the president’s personal doctor, and he told me President Buhari is not in any serious condition to worry about,” Mr. Shehu said. “He is not in hospital. He is in the residence at the Nigerian High Commission.”
Mr. Shehu further stated that the president was ready to return home with his delegation but for the arrival of some test results which indicated he needed further tests.
“He and his delegation were ready to come home today but for the delayed test result which came in today which necessitated that he delays his return.
“There is nothing to worry about as far as his condition is concerned,” Mr. Shehu said.
Mr. Buhari departed Nigeria on January 19 on a 10-day vacation and handed over to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
The latest is the third time he would embark on vacation since assuming office two years ago.
The president’s absence has continued to fuel speculations that his health had recently deteriorated.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, recently issued a statement to counter rumours of his death.
Mr. Mohammed also on Sunday debunked reports that he said Mr. Buhari could not return to Nigeria because of a faulty aircraft.
In a statement signed by his media aide, Segun Adeyemi, the minister blamed “purveyors of fake news” for the reports and urged Nigerians to disregard it in its entirety.
“Our attention has been drawn to a report quoting the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, as saying the President’s return to Nigeria may be hampered by a faulty aircraft.
“The Minister has not spoken to anyone on the issue of the President’s return, hence this report is another from the stable of the purveyors of fake news and should be disregarded,” the statement said.

Onnoghen gets nod to be CJN

Those pushing for Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Walter Onnoghen’s confirmation are likely to carry the day.
He has been cleared of all allegations impeding his appointment as the head of the nation’s Judiciary.
The Presidency may send his name to the Senate for confirmation “any moment from now”, The Nation learnt yesterday.
The nomination may either be sent by President Muhammadu Buhari or Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, depending on when the President’s vacation ends. He has asked for an extension.
A security report on Justice Onnoghen is said to have been centred on “the fact that he is reform-minded and suitable for the anti-corruption agenda of the Buhari administration”.
The Presidency is believed to have received the report.
A government source said: “All hurdles against the nomination of Justice Walter Onnoghen as CJN have been resolved. He has been absolved of all allegations against him.
“As a matter of fact, the nomination was delayed as a result of the need to address these allegations. Now, Justice Onnoghen has been given a clean bill of health.
“Every allegation was investigated and proofs indicated that Onnoghen has no case to answer. The government went to this extent to ensure that the holder of the office of CJN is above board.”
The source dismissed the insinuations that the delay in nominating Justice Onnoghen had to do with his being a Southerner.
“There were issues against him and it became imperative to get to the roots of these allegations,” he said, adding: “More importantly, the outcome of the security checks rated Onnoghen as ‘reform-minded and suitable for anti-corruption agenda of Buhari administration’.
Justice  Onnoghen’s appointment as Acting CJN will end on February 10.
Justice Onnoghen underwent security checks by the Department of State Services (DSS) and other agencies in the light of the ongoing probe of some judges of the Supreme Court.
Some of the checks focused on:
  • Justice Onnoghen’s antecedent as a lawyer.
  • What the 1994 Justice Kayode Eso (JSC) panel said on Onnoghen
  • How NJC Review Committee of 1999 on the Eso Panel’s report, headed by Justice Bola Babalakin(JSC), addressed issues against Justice Onnoghen
  • Outcome of recent investigation of bribery allegations against some Supreme Court Justices  by the DSS
  • Recommendations of the Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC) and the National Judicial Council (NJC) on Onnoghen.
Another government source added: “These agencies sent independent  confidential assessment to the President on the credibility and competence of Justice Onnoghen.
“Some  of the allegations bordered on observations  made on Onnoghen  in 1994 by a Judicial Reform Panel which was headed by late Justice Kayose Eso (JSC).
“The panel, which was raised by the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, indicted 47 judges and recommended their dismissal or retirement from the bench.
“Members of the National Judicial Council (NJC) however rose in favour of Justice Onnoghen by producing evidence that Justice Bola Babalakin Review Panel, set up ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, cleared Justice Onnoghen in 1999.
“They said it was on the basis of the clean bill of health that the NJC strongly recommended the confirmation of Onnoghen as the Chief Justice of Nigeria.”
The source also said further checks revealed that Justice Onnoghen had been incorruptible.
The source added: “Onnoghen was also rated as a conscientious judge and one of the three justices who wrote dissenting judgement on the 2007 Presidential Election in favour of the then candidate of the then All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.
“The other judges were Justice Oguntade and ex-CJN Mariam Aloma Mukhtar.
The tenure of the immediate past  CJN, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, ended on November 10.
Both the Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC) and the National Judicial Council (NJC)  recommended Justice Onnoghen to President Muhammadu Buhari as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
But the President appointed Justice Onnoghen as Acting CJN, a development which drew much criticism.
The appointment of CJN is always in accordance with Section 231 of the 1999 Constitution, but subject to confirmation by the Senate.
The section says: “The appointment of a person to the office of Chief Justice of Nigeria shall be made by the President on the recommendation of the National Judicial Council subject to the confirmation of such appointment by the Senate.

WHAT IS YOUR FINANCIAL PLAN B

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am a strong advocate of Plan "B".
It is ignorance to limit yourself to one stream of income.

It is more annoying when that one source of income is ACTIVE.

There are 2 types of income: Active & Passive. (I can lecture you on that for free)

My plan B gives me the two most important factors in human growth and development: Information & Contacts!

I have seen market women, uneducated people and the elites earn big and drive brand new cars courtesy of my plan B company.
It takes just N6,600 donation to start.

With this one off donation, you help the less privileged and you also earn.

Just few hours ago, 12 of my partners earned their brand New 2016 Hyundai Elantra cars in Calabar.

Check them out here.

BIBLE IN A YEAR: NUMBERS 18:1-20:9 AND PSALMS 145:1-13

MESSAGE

The Word of God has creative power. According to our Bible reading for today, the power in the Word of God created space where there was none. It seemed like there was no space for further creation and the Almighty God wanted to create what now constitutes the present day universe. So the Word created the space ( firmament) between the water and dry land for further creation. The Bible says :
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The same was in the beginning with God.
All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made." John 1:1-3
There are lots of lessons we could learn from this creation story: The Word of God, when allowed to do His work, will always make a way where there is no way and a space where there seemed to be no space. When the Isrealites got to the Red Sea and it seemed like they were stuck between the host of Pharaoh and the Sea, the Lord, through Moses, told them to move on. It takes faith in God to obey such a command, and thank God they did and their obedience paid off, because the Word made na expressway for them to pass through:
"And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward:
But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea." Exodus 14:15-16

Another lesson to be learnt here is ; people of God should always talk to God about their challenges. Moses did this effectively and God spoke at every given time. he became a problem solver because he had from God always. Also when God speaks, a miracle is potentially performed, but its ultimate manifestation is dependent on human agents. We short change ourselves of miracles when we fail to heed the Word of God. We should not forget our positions in the Created Order i.e. Image or God. It was Moses who divided the Sea not God, though under the influence of God's Word. The Word empowered the process by decree, "and the children of Isreal shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea." Settled! My prayer for you is that, as you obey the Word of God this year, you will begin to do the impossible in Jesus' name.

Action Point :
Examine your life and see if there are ways in which you have not been taking heed to God's Word.

What Makes a Good Relationship?

When people first experience falling in love, it often starts as attraction. Sexual feelings can also be a part of this attraction. People at this stage might daydream about a crush or a new BF or GF. They may doodle the person's name or think of their special someone while a particular song is playing.
It sure feels like love. But it's not love yet. It hasn't had time to grow into emotional closeness that's needed for love. Because feelings of attraction and sexual interest are new, and they're directed at a person we want a relationship with, it's not surprising we confuse attraction with love. It's all so intense, exciting, and hard to sort out.
The crazy intensity of the passion and attraction phase fades a bit after a while. Like putting all our energy into winning a race, this kind of passion is exhilarating but far too extreme to keep going forever. If a relationship is destined to last, this is where closeness enters the picture. The early passionate intensity may fade, but a deep affectionate attachment takes its place.
Some of the ways people grow close are:
  • Learning to give and receive. A healthy relationship is about both people, not how much one person can get from (or give to) the other.
  • Revealing feelings. A supportive, caring relationship allows people to reveal details about themselves — their likes and dislikes, dreams and worries, proud moments, disappointments, fears, and weaknesses.
  • Listening and supporting. When two people care, they offer support when the other person is feeling vulnerable or afraid. They don't put down or insult their partner, even when they disagree.
Giving, receiving, revealing, and supporting is a back-and-forth process: One person shares a detail, then the other person shares something, then the first person feels safe enough to share a little more. In this way, the relationship gradually builds into a place of openness, trust, and support where each partner knows that the other will be there when times are tough. Both feel liked and accepted for who they are.
The passion and attraction the couple felt early on in the relationship isn't lost. It's just different. In healthy, long-term relationships, couples often find that intense passion comes and goes at different times. But the closeness is always there.
